Bachmann trains
Founded in 1833 by Henry Carlisle, the company originally specialized in vanity products such as parasol handles and combs made from ivory. In 1899 Carlisle's firm merged with a competing firm run by Henry G. Bachmann and changed its name to Bachmann Bros. In 1927 they became the first American manufacturer of sunglasses.
In 1968 Bachmann began making N scale model trains. In 1970 they started making HO scale trains.
In 1986 the company debuted its premium Spectrum® line that emphasizes highly detailed, faithfully reproduced locomotives and train sets. In 2002 Bachmann became the United States distributor of Thomas & Friends™.
Today Bachmann offers trains in HO, N, On30, 00 gauge , HOn30 (H0 scale on N tracks) and Gscale , in addition to buildings and accessories. They are the only company currently to offer HO, N, O, and G scale lines.
